Potassium nitrite (distinct from potassium
nitrate) is the asleep admixture with the actinic blueprint KNO2. It is an
ionic alkali of potassium ions K+ and nitrite ions NO2−, which forms a white or
hardly yellow, hygroscopic apparent crumb that is acrid in water.
It is a able oxidizer and may advance the
agitation of added materials. Like added nitrite salts such as sodium nitrite,
potassium nitrite is baneful if swallowed, and class tests advance that it may
be mutagenic or teratogenic. Gloves and assurance glasses are usually
acclimated if administration potassium nitrite.
